Printmaking | Botanical & Ocean Block Prints

Joan Pranata Bogart is an artist drawing inspiration from nature and culture.  Botanical and ocean prints carved from linoleum blocks are inspired by the motif of Indonesian Batik, an intricate hand designed textile made from wax resist printing.  Her parents are from Indonesia, but she grew up in Southern California, moving around the Bay Area since graduating from University of California, Berkeley. Following a BA in Art Practice she worked in online advertising at Google for over a decade, and she illustrated on the side. ​Printmaking with her kids was a catalyst for Joan’s self-taught practice of linocut and relief printing.  Joan practices her craft in her backyard art studio while raising three children and her pup Willow with her husband in Santa Cruz, CA. When she's not printmaking, she volunteers at her childrens' school and loves to mountain bike the Santa Cruz Mountains.
