For decades, my art leaned heavily toward a childlike illustrated look. I started to want to paint animals more realistically, but found it hard to feel comfortable bringing in a new style. One day I saw this beautiful, Great Gray Owl drawn by an anonymous artist. Bright sparks and YES and little happy fireworks lit me up from the inside … this was quickly followed by the challenges of learning how I wanted to paint more realistic animals. But I wrote this sentence that day “the universe has given me a clue, I must be brave” and I thank the artist and the drawing of the Great Gray Owl for helping me a take those first steps towards a change in my art.
