Sweet Basil Necklace takes its shape from sweet basil leaves, giving necklace a sculptural, just-picked-from-the-garden quality. Michael Michaud creates his molds directly from real leaves, branches and flowers, using a process related to lost-wax casting. The original plant matter disappears in the heat, but its veins, edges and surface detail remain in the finished form. It is the kind of piece that rewards a closer look, with the craftsmanship serving the plant rather than overpowering it. Each one is handcrafted in New York. Michaud's botanical collections have also been commissioned by major museums, including the Victoria & Albert Museum and the National Gallery of Art. Bronze with gold accents.
